MythBusters TV Show- By: Blair Levi

Description : MythBusters TV Show is an entertainment program in the science and technology genre. It is aired in numerous countries including the USA, UK and Australia. The hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage test the validity of myths, rumors, news stories, popular fables and movie scenes. This is done by applying the scientific method.

The concept of this program was brainchild of Australian producer and writer Peter Rees. Originally, the series was intended for Discovery Channel in the USA, but it rejected the proposal. The reason behind rejection was that Discovery had already aired a TV series on a similar topic.

Rees made some changes to theme of the show and focused it on testing myths and popular stories. Later, Discovery agreed to air a pilot series spanning three episodes. Jamie and Adam were chosen to host the show due to their expertise in special effects. The three pilot episodes were aired in January and March 2003.

MythBusters TV Show is not aired as a typical program and a set calendar is not used for airing its episodes. Instead the episodes are listed on its official website. In addition to that DVDs of its seasons are sold by Discovery. These DVDs are sold by Discovery on its own and at select retail stores in form of collective editions. President Obama has been quoted as praising the series and even met its Jamie and Adam at the White House.

A couple of rumors and myths prevalent in everyday life, including those on Internet, are tested in this program. There are quite a few sources of these myths and rumors. The sources include Discovery website's myth-buster forums, experience of hosts and their fan mail. Extensive preparation is required for each episode and hosts have to do lot of groundwork before telecast.

During the beginning of every episode of this series a myth is introduced. Afterwards, a comical video depicting it is shown. A range of mechanical instruments are used for establishing the truth behind a rumor or a myth. At the end of each episode of MythBusters a conclusion is made. It can be busted (false), declared plausible (possible, but difficult) or confirmed (quite possible).
